Delivery Instructions - Please Note
Our log cabins are delivered on a flat bed lorry and unloaded by crane, you will therefore need to create an appropriate space close to your kerbside for the driver to complete the delivery of the building.
Consideration should be given to the size and weight of the building. If you have restricted access please let us know at the time of ordering.
Our Cabins are made from kiln dried timber which are supplied wrapped with polythene and we suggest that they be covered with a tarpaulin if they are to be stored outside prior to construction. This is to prevent moisture/rain from warping and rotting the timber pror to installation.
All deliveries must be signed for unless confirmation is provided before delivery that the product can be left without a signature. Please see terms and conditions for more details.
Installation Information
Professional installation is available on all “Heart of England” branded log-cabins although there may be some post code exceptions as shown below. We are not able to offer an installation service to any Offshore locations.
Postcode exceptions : AB, DD, DT, EX, FK, IV, KW, KY, PA, PH, PL, SA, TQ, TR
To add this option to your order simply look for the ‘additional extras’ tab on the product page and select the ‘pro-installation’ option.
The pro-installation team will then contact you in advance to arrange a suitable time and date for the fitting – this may be on a separate date to that of the delivery.
Please note: when the Pro-Installation option is selected it only applies to the the building. If you choose any of the additional extras - Roof Shingles, Deck Extension or Gutter and Fascia kit - then please make sure you also select the relevant installation option and the costs will be added to your overall price.
Pro-Installation Terms & Conditions
Before our Intallation Team arrive it is essential that :-
1. A Firm and Level base is in place - the most common method is concrete or paving slabs, however Timber decking can be used as long as it is able to take the weight of your building.
Failure to provide this, in the opinion of the professional team, may result in the installation being aborted with a re-visit charge being applied should another appointment have to be made. Please see the Base Size diagrams for guidance.
2. The base and area surrounding must be clear and easily accessible with sufficient working space - for Log Cabins we recommend 1m on all sides . Failure to provide this space may result in the installation being aborted with a re-visit charge being applied should another appointment have to be made.
3. A power supply is made available.
4. The installers are able to use a short and easily accessible route to take the building from where it has been placed during delivery to where it is required to be installed. This includes ensuring there are no obstacles such as narrow pathways or archways. If the access route from kerbside to base is particularly long or difficult to maneouvre you may be required to move the building into position yourself before the installers arrive - please clarify this in advance with your installer if you are unsure to avoid the possibility of a re-visit charge having to be applied.
DIY Installation
If you decide to install the building yourself the following tips may help.
At least two people are required to erect any building and, where provided, follow the manufacturers instructions / drawings.
The starting point for any building is that there must be a Sound Level Base. The most common method is concrete or paving slabs, however Timber decking can be used as long as it is able to take the weight of your building.
Make sure you have adequate access to the site of the building so the parts/components can be moved there from the point of delivery.
Allow plenty of space to work safely - in the case of Log Cabins we recommend 1m all around as these buildings are constructed from the corners.
Timber Treatment
The Building will need to be treated with a suitable protective coating immediately after erection. We recommend Cuprinol Shades, Sadolin or Sikkens, all of which are available from most Builders Merchants or DIY stores.
Rubbercover
All 'Pent' roof Log Cabins are now supplied with the superior ClassicBond EPDM finish.
It is a very durable sheet rubber materia land comes with a 20 year guarantee, with a life expectancy of 50 years.
This product is required to be fitted by approved installers so the buiding must be installed by Heartof England.
Treatment and Maintenance of Your Building
The performance and lifespan of your garden building is entirely dependent on how you treat and maintain the building.
Taking a small amount of time throughout the year to look after the building and tend to any repairs before they become more serious is vital.
With all wooden structures the key to maintaining the building is ensuring that it remains on a firm and level base and protected against moisture penetration.
To help you get the best out of your buildings we have prepared a list of some of the key requirements in maintaining your garden building:-
Treatment
Your cabin will be supplied untreated and therefore it is essential that it is treated externally immediately after it is erected with a good quality water resistant treatment. Take particular care to thoroughly treat the bottom four logs all around the cabin as well as all the joints, corners and ends of the logs. It is important that all components are well covered and no bare timber is left exposed. Don’t forget tops and bottoms of doors and windows. We recommend a minimum of 3 coats.
Suggested products are Cuprionol, Sadolin or Sikkens. Your local decorators merchant will be able to offer further advice.
It is also good practice to apply a clear wood preserver such as Cuprinol clear wood preserver (minimum of 2 coats) which will help protect the timber before you apply the treatment of your choice, particularly if you are unable to treat the building immediately after installation. It gives a deep penetrating protection to sound wood against decay, mould and blue-staining fungi.
This treatment needs to be left to dry for 3 to 5 days before you can over-paint.
Additional Weathering
In exposed locations it may be a good idea to increase the weatherproofing of your cabin by adding a silicone seal after the coating has been applied to all corner joints and around windows and doors, again ensuring all the joints and the edges of all the logs are filled, leaving no bare timber.
Settlement
All log cabins settle within the first few months. Moisture content in the logs will also change with the seasons and with use, which will cause expansion and contraction of the wall logs the windows and doors (up to 20-25mm). This is a natural occurrence which can be limited by the application of an exterior treatment. Please do not fix anything to the logs that may restrict their movement.
General Maintenance of Your Building
Ensure nothing is in contact with your building: Any overhanging tree or hedge growth poses a threat to your garden building and should be cut back at regular intervals. If a tree branch makes contact with your building it may pierce the roofing felt and encourage water ingress.
Check and replace any damaged felt: If you do find any damage sustained to your roofing felt over time it is essential that you act upon this without delay. Should you discover a rip or tear in the felt it is recommended that this area be stripped from the roof and a new covering of high grade, heavy duty, mineral felt (which can be purchased online and/or at most retail DIY stores) be affixed immediately.
Check your base: You should have already ensured the base was perfectly level at point of assembly but it is important to monitor this is still the case. Any movement of the base under the building can lead to twisting of the timber or dropping of the doors.
Lubrication and adjustment : All hinges and handles should be lubricated with suitable oil to ensure continued ease of use.
To adjust doors and windows, simply unscrew hinges and realign as necessary or pack under bearers of building to square up doorway.
