How long will delivery take ?

The expected delivery time of each product can be found on each individual product page. If you are in need of a product sooner than the expected delivery period, please contact us and we will look into the possibility of getting it to you earlier.

Advance notification of an exact delivery date will be given a few days prior to the proposed date (minimum 7 days), Should the date offered not be convenient, you are able to request a re-schedule without additional charge.

Unlike some companies that mass produce and then stockpile buildings that are then susceptible to weathering and damage, all of our Log Cabins are manufactured fresh and delivered straight out - just for you !

How will I know if my order has been accepted ?

After we have accepted and processed your Order, you will receive a confirmation email. If you order by phone and do not use an email address, we will confirm your Order by post. Please call us if you don't receive your confirmation within 5 days.

Can I request a brochure and price list ?

Heart of England no longer produce brochures as our product range is continually expanding and changing . Our website contains far more information than any printed brochures and the information is updated regularly to ensure far greater accuracy.

Is planning permission required for my log cabin/garden building ?

Planning Permission

The following information was copied directly from the UK Government website so it should be checked whether it is up to date at the time of installation. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure their property / building meets current planning guidelines. The customer accepts that Heart of England cannot be held responsible for any problems incuured due to planning issues.

Most Garden Buildings are classed as outbuidings and therefore come under the following criteria:

Rules governing outbuildings apply to sheds, greenhouses and garages as well as other ancillary garden buildings such as swimming pools, ponds, sauna cabins, kennels, enclosures (including tennis courts) and many other kinds of structure for a purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the dwellinghouse.

Under new regulations that came into effect on 1 October 2008 outbuildings are considered to be permitted development, not needing planning permission, subject to the following limits and conditions:

  • No outbuilding forward of the principal elevation fronting a highway.
  • Outbuildings and garages to be single storey with maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres and maximum overall height of four metres with a dual pitched roof or three metres for any other roof.
  • Maximum height 2.5 metres within two metres of a boundary.
  • No verandas, balconies or raised platforms.
  • No more than half the area of land around the "original house"* would be covered by additions or other buildings.
  • In National Parks, the Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Sites the maximum area to be covered by buildings, enclosures, containers and pools more than 20 metres from house to be limited to 10 square metres.
  • On designated land* buildings, enclosures, containers and pools at the side of properties will require planning permission.
  • Within the curtilage of listed buildings any outbuilding will require planning permission.

*The term "original house" means the house as it was first built or as it stood on 1 July 1948 (if it was built before that date). Although you may not have built an extension to the house, a previous owner may have done so.

*Designated land includes national parks and the Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, conservation areas and World Heritage Sites.

Building Regulations

If you want to put up small detached buildings such as a garden shed or summerhouse in your garden, building regulations will not normally apply if the floor area of the building is less than 15 square metres.

If the floor area of the building is between 15 square metres and 30 square metres, you will not normally be required to apply for building regulations approval providing that the building is either at least one metre from any boundary or it is constructed of substantially non-combustible materials.

In both cases, building regulations do not apply ONLY if the building does not contain any sleeping accommodation.

Do you offer a Guarantee ?

A full 12 month parts Guarantee is offered with all of our Log Cabins. It covers the replacement of affected goods/parts but does not include any travel expenses, lost wages, or labour costs, involved in the installation or replacement of the parts.

The Guarantee offers protection against general timber rot and decay – it does not cover the product against timber splits or shrinkage or warping which may occur naturally over time. Movement/expansion of doors and windows due to changing seasonal climatic conditions is not covered under the Guarantee. Please note that the windows and doors used on our garden buildings and cabins are not storm proof and under certain weather conditions are not guaranteed to be waterproof.

To maintain the validity of this Guarantee the product must be assembled strictly in accordance with the instructions supplied, treated as soon as is practical after installation, and treated (at a minimum) annually with an appropriate high quality preservative. All glazing units must be sealed, inside and out, with silicone or other water tight sealant.

Our Guarantee will be deemed invalid if:-

  • The product has not been assembled correctly by the end user.
  • The base upon which the product is assembled is not suitable - all buildings should be assembled on a firm and level base constructed from a suitable material .
  • The product has not been treated annually (at a minimum) with an appropriate high quality preservative .
  • Any windows have not been sealed, inside and out, with silicone or other water tight sealant.
  • The product has been customised or adapted in any way.
  • At any point after assembly the building has been in contact with any trees, plants or exterior walls which could allow moisture to penetrate the timber.
  • Any timber has been cut, pierced or drilled without a subsequent application of approved cut-end treatment.
  • The eventual claimant was not the original purchaser of the product.
  • The roofing felt or covering has been damaged or incorrectly fitted allowing water ingress .

Please note: Timber is a natural product and prone to changes in appearance, including some movement, warping and splitting, particularly in extreme weather conditions. This will not affect the structural integrity of the product – this is natural and is not covered by a guarantee. Guarantees are subject to regular maintainance and treatment of buildings .

What about product maintainance ?

Treatment and Maintenance of Your Building

The performance and lifespan of your Log Cabin is entirely dependent on how you treat and maintain the building.

Taking a small amount of time throughout the year to look after the building and tend to any repairs before they become more serious is vital.

With all wooden structures the key to maintaining the building is ensuring that it remains on a firm and level base and protected against moisture penetration.

To help you get the best out of your buildings we have prepared a list of some of the key requirements in maintaining your garden building:


Your Log Cabin will be supplied untreated and therefore it is essential that it is treated externally immediately after it is erected with a good quality water resistant treatment. Take particular care to thoroughly treat the bottom four logs all around the cabin as well as all the joints, corners and ends of the logs. It is important that all components are well covered and no bare timber is left exposed. Don’t forget tops and bottoms of doors and windows.We recommend a minimum of 3 coats. 

Suggested products are  Cuprionol, Sadolin or Sikkens. Your local decorators merchant will be able to offer further advice.

It is also good practice to apply a clear wood preserver such as Cuprinol clear wood preserver (minimum of 2 coats) which will help protect the timber before you apply the treatment of your choice, particularly if you are unable to treat the building immediately after installation. It gives a deep penetrating protection to sound wood against decay, mould and blue-staining fungi.

This treatment needs to be left to dry for 3 to 5 days before you can over-paint. 

Additional Weathering

In exposed locations it may be a good idea to increase the weatherproofing of your cabin by adding a silicone seal after the coating has been applied to all corner joints and around windows and doors, again ensuring all the joints and the edges of all the logs are filled, leaving no bare timber.


All log cabins settle within the first few months. Moisture content in the logs will also change with the seasons and with use, which will cause expansion and contraction of the wall logs the windows and doors (up to 20-25mm). This is a natural occurrence which can be limited by the application of an exterior treatment. Please do not fix anything to the logs that may restrict their movement.

General Maintenance of Your Building

Ensure nothing is in contact with your building: Any overhanging tree or hedge growth poses a threat to your garden building and should be cut back at regular intervals. If a tree branch makes contact with your building it may pierce the roofing felt and encourage water ingress.

Check and replace any damaged felt: If you do find any damage sustained to your roofing felt over time it is essential that you act upon this without delay. Should you discover a rip or tear in the felt it is recommended that this area be stripped from the roof and a new covering of high grade, heavy duty, mineral felt (which can be purchased online and/or at most retail DIY stores) be affixed immediately.

Check your base: You should have already ensured the base was perfectly level at point of assembly but it is important to monitor this is still the case. Any movement of the base under the building can lead to twisting of the timber or dropping of the doors.

Lubrication and adjustment : All hinges and handles should be lubricated with suitable oil to ensure continued ease of use. 

To adjust doors and windows, simply unscrew hinges and realign as necessary or pack under bearers of building to square up doorway.

Can I install the building myself ?

All of our self assembly Log Cabins come with simple instructions for which a reasonable level of DIY skills is required.

A basic set of tools set including a cordless drill and a ladder will also be needed.


What materials do you use ?

All buildings have a detailed specification on individual product pages.

Below is a quick reference overview of the main components used.


All of our Log Cabins are designed and manufactured in the UK - something we positively promote.

All timber is high quality Northern European softwood originating from Pine or Spruce from sustainable forests.

We do not use OSB board or cheap sheet material in any of our buildings. These materials are generaly used in inferior, mass produced buildings and will start to rot after a very short space of time.


Log Cabins.

Side walling :
a) 28mm single tongue log - kiln dried
b) 44mm double tongue log - kiln dried

Corners have a unique 4-way tight fit chamfered notch system to reduce wind and damp penetration.

Roof and floor :
Tongue and groove floorboard - finish 19mm thick

Floor bearers :
Pressure treated heavy duty floor joists

Windows and doors :
High quality Joiner made - option of single or double glazed with wooden internal beading-silicone sealed.
Draught proof edging .High quality hinges (not cheap pin hinges), brass handles and quality locks.
Extra high doors and extra large windows - all outward opening.

What about a base for my building ?

It is essential that all Log Cabins are assembled on a firm and level base constructed from an appropriate and durable material.

Without the correct base buildings may be very difficult to assemble and in many cases may be assembled incorrectly leading to future deterioration of the product such as doors dropping out of square and becoming difficult to open/close or water leakage.
Assembling a garden building on an incorrect base is also likely to invalidate any guarantee that your product may carry.

To construct a suitable base we would recommend using a reputable local builder or handyman.

However if you feel comfortable with the task then it is relatively straightforward to construct your own base.

We recommend slabs or a solid concrete slab 75-100mm thick.

Dependant on ground conditions, a compacted sub base of hardcore or type 1 MOT roadstone may be required to lay the slabs/concrete on.

As an alternative, timber decking can be used taking care to ensure that bearers are built to support the weight of the building.
